Built during the colonial period, throughout its history it underwent numerous remodeling and reconstructions. The aqueduct is made up of 253 semicircular arches that reach their maximum height of 9.24 meters, close to the Villalongín Garden area. It has 2 water boxes, one at the beginning, and the other approximately 700 meters from the first. Its length is more than 1700 meters. The aqueduct carried water to the then limit of the city, from where it was distributed through an underground clay pipe to fountains, convents and private homes.Its use came to an end at the dawn of the 20th century, around 1910.
